1960:
- A new design is introduced on some plates. On these,
the letters & numbers are of the same dies, the tab
slots are removed, the year is moved to the right, and a
dash replaces the lone star.
- On these new plates, the "TEXAS" is of thinner dies (continuing
through 1964).
- Passenger plate color: white on black.

1961:
- The new 1960 style continues, except the lone star returns.
- Passenger plate color: black on white.

1962:
- Three die varieties exist:
- A) Early plates have a wide "X", as the 61 plate.
- B) Between LW & ML the "X" became thinner.
- C) Some time between VP*8549 & VR*2089, the narrower
1963-style "Texas" came into use.
- An investigation into the possibility of replacing yearly
plates with semi-permanent ones finds the current system
to be the most economical.
- Manufacturer,

plates introduced.
- Passenger plate color: white on black.

1963:
- The year is moved to the bottom of the plate.
- Legislation is introduced to add the slogan, "The Lone
Star State" to 1964 plates. The bill is rejected.
- Legislation is introduced to add the slogan, "Vacation
State" to 1965 plates. The bill is rejected.
- Legislation is introduced to add the slogan, "Has Everything"
to 1964 plates. The bill is rejected.
- "10-18"
& "18-32"
Trailer plates are introduced.
- Some plates are issued with an inverted star.
- Passenger plate color: black on white.

1965:
- Personalized
(vanity) plates introduced.
- To allow for more combinations, the ABC-12 or ABC-123
format is adopted, without the lone star for 1965 only.
- Plates have "19 TEXAS (date)" at the top
in large dies (through 1974, except 68 & 71).

1966:
- Personalized plates (only) become reflectorized.
- Passenger plate color: white on black.

1967:
- Passenger plate color: black on white.

1968:
- "Hemisfair" plates issued to promote the international
exposition in San Antonio. Non-San Antonians are not pleased.
- Plates have "TEXAS" in small dies along top, "68 HEMISFAIR
68" at bottom.
- Texas begins the task of computerizing motor vehicle
records.
- Passenger plate color: white on black.

- Plates return to the 1967 design, except all plates become
reflectorized.
- Passenger plate color: black on white.
